Personal Statement
To Whom This May Concern:
I am personally motivated by work which is meaningful to direct positive change and development within my community and globally. As a student at the University of Western Ontario I began my studies at Huron College, (ICS) International and Comparative Development Studies. I was an active member of G.L.O.B.E. the student created and run organization for global learning opportunities beyond education, the Green Team, environmental group, Oxfam and the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). I worked locally thinking globally towards grassroots development, from 2001 to 2003.
On wards at the University of Toronto, studying Environment and Politics, and working with O.P.I.R.G (Ontario Public Interest Research Group), CCF, Science for Peace, the G8 Research Group, and the Sustainability Office at the University of Toronto I further worked towards community development locally, from 2003-2007. In 2005 awarded a Douglas Pimlott Award for Environment.
From 2007 to the present, working and studying online at the University of Guelph focusing on Environment, and Development. I was nominated by my peers for a community peace award. I continue to study, and focus my work on helping to achieve successful grassroots environmentally, socially conscious development.
I wish to further apply my knowledge, skills and self towards working towards peace, environment, social and progressive development in graduate studies.
Recognizing the areas that are problematic in society, finding out the root problem of these issues if possible, and ensuring that something is done to make things better for the people is the most meaningful work to me. Environmental degradation, poverty, illness, inequality, war, human rights violations, are all the problems of the world that need attending to as quickly as possible. As a community organizer, one must assess and be attuned to what people are concerned about, and use the resources at hand to help the people to come together and work towards these issues on a daily basis. Without the tireless work of dedicated volunteers much of the human suffering occurring daily would not be alleviated. As a volunteer with experience, I know the hardships faced by those whom are striving to change the world on a daily basis and become frustrated at the progress to change everything worldwide. However I also see the potential in each and every individual, and I am awestruck by the motivation, drive, dedication, unique ideas, and amazing organizational planning and potential that goes into the work of activists. To be a helping hand towards all these goals is what I think of as a privileged opportunity. I appreciate and thank you for having this position available and filled with a person whom is a great resource and point of reference for others whom are working on a daily basis. It would be my honor to serve the community in this way.
Thank you sincerely,
Ms. Rose M. LaVerde

ADOPTION
Related to country: Canada

September 17th, 2007 is to be a day of reckoning for the millions of adoptees and birth parents and kin in Ontario, Canada whom have no access to the identifying information of their own next of kin. Since 1927, adoption records had been sealed and adoptees and birth parents unable to at a legal age for a child be enabled to view personal information such as the identities of family members, original birth certificates including the names of both birth parents and the child’s name and the most important aspect; a transparency to the access to information for both parents and children involved in the adoption process.
A social stigma which causes this rift of transparent information for both parties disallows the human right to personal information. Society’s stigma of the unwed pregnancy clearly displaces individuals, makes them strangers to their own kin, and segregates individuals in its attempt to create social approval for the individuals involved.
On September 17, 2007, fifty years after this decree made law, finally access to important information for the adopted children and their families will be rightfully returned. Adoptees and birth parents will have access to their own personal history through sealed government documents including original birth certificates, identifying information, legal original birth names and all of the documentation available pertaining to the adoption. It’s a long time coming and although halfway there, and a great victory for the adoption community, there is still a lot more work to be done to eradicate the silence and secrecy of adoption.

The Mentor/Protegee Relationship

So what is it that prevents mentor / protégée relationships?
Narcissism.
The idea that it’s all about that reflection in the mirror. And teams of yes men paid to agree and endure.

G.H. Pollock observed ‘The malignant narcissist is presented as pathologically grandiose, lacking in conscience and behavioral regulation with characteristic demonstrations of joyful cruelty and sadism.’
Tom Cruise has talked about his abusive father, James Dean’s father was unloving and rejected him and well, let’s not even get into Lindsay Lohan’s parentage. Here’s more on narcissism.
‘…an infantile, defensive personality structure in response to abuse and trauma, usually developing in early childhood or early adolescence. They suggest that narcissistic personality disorder may be a maladaptive defense of the abused child's or adolescent's emotional splitting, resultant cognitive distortions, and negative/hostile worldview.’

I’m just sayin’.
